Job summary

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a senior-level Thermal Engineer to lead high-fidelity thermal analyses across missile systems and spacecraft architectures. You will own the thermal modeling strategy, perform hand calculations, and guide design trade studies through concept to production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
• Significant professional experience in thermal analysis (thermophysics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics).
• Experience using industry-standard thermal analysis tools such as NX/Simcenter, Thermal Desktop, SINDA, ANSYS.
• Knowledge or experience developing and managing technical requirements.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; US Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end thermal modeling across missile components, subsystems, and integrated systems.
• Develop preliminary calculations and reduced-order models to inform early design decisions.
• Account for conduction, convection, radiation, aerodynamic and transient heating effects.
• Translate requirements into actionable thermal design criteria and verification plans.
• Lead technical reviews and present results to customers and design teams.
• Support TVAC and environmental testing with instrumentation and data correlation.
• Collaborate with structures, materials, propulsion, manufacturing, and quality teams for producible designs.
• Coordinate TPS design and component-level thermal integration.
