Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Test Engineer for a dynamic medical device lab. You will perform development, verification, and lifecycle testing on next-generation devices, coordinating with Product Development and Lab staff to ensure robust testing across shifts.

Responsibilities include designing test protocols, developing new methodologies, and ensuring adherence to good laboratory practices. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in mechanical engineering or related field required; MS preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience with BS.
  • Strong understanding of testing, lab practices, and metrics.
  • Proficient use of common lab test equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform development, verification, and lifecycle testing on next-generation medical devices.
  • Coordinate and conduct performance and lifecycle testing on assigned projects and products.
  • Act as testing representative and primary technical contact between Test Lab and Product Development team.
  • Determine test protocols and screen design concepts.
  • Develop new test methodologies and coordinate testing with other lab equipment.
  • Coordinate lab staff to keep testing moving through second and third shifts when needed.
  • Assist project teams with feedback and develop high-quality test methodologies.
  • Plan testing proactively and involve groups such as Metrology, Quality, CAE, and Test Operations.
  • Assist design groups and internal customers from research through final verification testing.
  • Select test equipment, develop test methods, create customized test fixtures, set up test systems, and execute testing.
  • Design, develop, and implement customized test systems.
  • Communicate proactively between stakeholders and the lab.
  • Assist with test guidelines and procedures and recommend specification revisions when necessary.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and maintain engineering-related test systems.
  • Assist Test Lab management with priorities, scheduling, and technician training.
  • Communicate face to face with second- and third-shift lab staff on occasion.

Job description

Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Master’s or PhD preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with a B.S.
  • Basic understanding of testing, testing equipment, good laboratory practices, and department metrics
  • Proficient use of common laboratory test equipment
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and software problem-solving skills desired
  • Comfortable and confident speaking to small and medium-sized groups
  • Test Lab or Test Systems experience preferred
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independence when applying professional expertise
  • Ability to manage time and projects proactively
  • Ability to complete documentation accurately and bring tasks through to completion with minimal supervision
  • Ability to analyze and correct complex processes and product issues using independent judgment
  • Medical device experience in a highly regulated environment is a plus
  • Ability to work first shift and occasionally communicate face to face with second- and third-shift lab staff
  • Ability to travel 10%
