Job summary

CIVCO Medical Solutions is seeking an Engineering Test Technician to perform tests on electro-mechanical devices and small plastic parts used with ultrasound probes. Qualifications

  • Perform tests on electro-mechanical devices and plastic parts following established protocols and document results.
  • Record and analyze test results, identify deviations, log and prepare computer test reports.
  • Prepare samples for testing according to established protocols and ensure proper safety practices.
  • Design and develop test fixtures and automated systems to support testing needs.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings and electrical diagrams to guide testing.
  • Coordinate lab resources and maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Lead or participate in lab process improvements and onboarding of new technicians.

Job description

The Engineering Test Technician will be responsible for performing tests on electro-mechanical devices and small plastic products used with ultrasound probes. This role involves managing test samples, maintaining the lab, calibrating equipment, developing test fixtures, creating testing protocols, and executing tests to ensure product quality and compliance with industry standards. The Technician must also understand and maintain proper biohazard, electrical, and mechanical safety procedures. The role will be hands‑on, working with a variety of products and with a team of experienced Project, Design, Manufacturing, Tooling, and Quality Engineers. This role offers a growth path into increased ownership of lab operations and, over time, leadership responsibility for lab personnel, scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform and Document Testing
    • Conduct tests on electro-mechanical devices and plastic parts following established protocols.
    • Record and analyze test results, identifying any deviations or issues, log and prepare computer test reports.
    • Prepare samples for testing according to established protocols.
    • Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
    • Repetitive actions involved with testing.
    • Design and develop test fixtures and automated systems to support testing needs.
    • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and electrical diagrams.
    • Aptitude with common hand tools required, and machining capabilities would be a plus.
    • Develop test procedures and protocols and route for approval in CIVCO’s electronic document control system (Windchill).
    • Ability to interpret and follow established procedures and protocols.
    • Ability to read and interpret standards, such as ISO 13485.
    • Provide clear, concise, fact‑based results of test.
    • Document all aspects of the test and set up.
    • Organize and file the results for record retention.
    • Maintain a high standard of ethical integrity.
  • Lab Management
    • Continuously improve lab policies and procedures.
    • Ensure all testing areas are equipped and supplied adequately.
    • Perform routine calibration and maintenance of testing equipment.
    • Document calibration activities and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure fixtures meet testing requirements.
    • Maintain equipment in proper working order and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Lab Leadership & Growth (Progressive Responsibility)
    • Demonstrate ownership of lab operations, including prioritization of testing activities aligned to engineering project needs.
    • Identify opportunities to improve lab throughput, efficiency, and service levels.
    • Support onboarding and training of new technicians and users of lab equipment.
    • Partner with engineering leadership to develop lab capacity plans based on project demand.
    • Over time, assume increased responsibility for coordinating lab resources, including scheduling and workflow management.
    • Opportunity to grow into a formal leadership role with responsibility for lab personnel and performance(based on business need).
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Minimum of an Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school with completed classes in laboratory or scientific fields. Preferred bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical Certification is a plus. Minimum of five years of related experience. Experience leading small teams without authority, coordinating work, or managing lab operations is a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office application suite.
  • Able to interpret drawings or 3D models and electrical diagrams.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with common hand tools is required.
  • Ability to analyze, draw and present conclusions from data is vital to success.
  • Working knowledge of hospital environments, and procedures is a plus.
  • Team player who can function within a team, and yet be able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated initiative and interest in leadership, process improvement, and operational ownership is a plus.
