Job summary

Observable Space is seeking a Senior Test Engineer, HITL, to design, build, and operate hardware-in-the-loop test systems for our precision optics platforms used in ground-based and future on-orbit missions.

The role requires hands-on work with real hardware, automated test frameworks, and cross-disciplinary debugging across electrical, mechanical, and software domains. You will report to the Systems or Embedded Engineering Lead.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in test engineering, embedded systems, or systems-level development.
• Strong programming in C/C++ and Python for test automation and integration.
• Experience designing and implementing HITL/test environments.
• Understanding of embedded hardware interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet) and real-time systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and maintain HITL test systems for spacecraft and telescope subsystems.
• Design test infrastructure to integrate real hardware with simulated environments.
• Develop automated test frameworks and tooling for scalable validation across the product lifecycle.
• Build and maintain simulation environments for system-level testing, including fault injection.
• Collaborate with embedded, electrical, mechanical, and software teams for verification.
• Debug cross-disciplinary issues across hardware and software boundaries.
• Define and execute test plans, validation procedures, and performance benchmarks.
• Support hardware bring-up, integration, and system-level validation.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines by integrating automated test suites.
