Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 4 years of experience or equivalent.
• Current TSS and Swing Cab (TLL) certifications for assigned crane.
• Employer evaluation for the crane type, size, and work.
• CDL Class A with medical card when duties include carrier work.
• State/local crane qualifications when required.
• Ability to set up and operate routine telescopic-crane lifts independently.

Responsibilities

• Review lift plans for weight, radius, boom length, setup, path, landing area, communication, and team roles.
• Walk the work area to verify access, ground, obstructions, clearance, power lines, and landing readiness.
• Perform daily or pre-shift inspections and document; remove crane from service if defects found.
• Set up cranes using manufacturer procedures: placement, leveling, outriggers, mats/cribbing, counterweight, boom/jib.
• Determine load-gro ss, radius, and configuration using load charts.
• Maintain designated signal authority and ground crew positions before movement.
• Operate lifts smoothly with coordination of controls, accounting for wind and movement.
• Complete lift from test pick to placement with chart compliance throughout.
• Stop and secure crane if actual conditions differ from plan.
• Explain crane response and setup limits to rigging and supervision; coordinate safe setup and teardown.
• Maintain logs and inspection records and assist coaching of junior operators.
