Placements24 is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Technician for our client in Upington, Northern Cape. This hands-on role installs, maintains, and repairs fiber optic and cellular infrastructure, ensuring continuous network uptime and safety compliance.

You will diagnose complex issues, document findings, mentor junior technicians, and collaborate with engineering teams on upgrades. A strong background in telecom systems and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as Telecommunications Technician with senior experience.
• Fiber optic installation, splicing and testing expertise.
• Experience with wireless/cellular networks and related equipment.
• Proficient with electronic testing and diagnostic tools.
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Based in Upington or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leading telecommunications infrastructure company, is seeking an experienced Senior Telecommunications Technician for their operations in Upington, Northern Cape . This hands-on role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex telecommunications systems and equipment, including fiber optic networks, cellular infrastructure, and associated hardware. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of service delivery, diagnosing and resolving technical issues efficiently, and contributing to the reliable operation of our client's network. The ideal candidate will possess advanced technical skills, a strong understanding of telecommunications principles, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. This role requires dedication and a commitment to technical excellence in the Upington area.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment and infrastructure.
• Perform diagnostic tests and troubleshoot faults in fiber optic networks, transmission systems, and radio access networks.
• Respond to service calls and emergency repairs in a timely manner.
• Ensure all work is completed according to company standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
• Operate and maintain specialized tools and testing equipment.

Requirements

• A Matriculation certificate or equivalent; a relevant technical diploma or certification in Telecommunications or Electronics is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Telecommunications Technician, with a proven track record in a senior capacity.
• In-depth knowledge of fiber optic technologies, including installation, splicing, and testing.
• Experience with wireless communication systems, cellular networks, and related equipment.
• Proficiency in using electronic testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Strong understanding of network protocols and telecommunications principles.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Upington, Northern Cape , to effectively cover the service territory.
