Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Techno-Functional US Wires / Payments SME to support wire payments implementation, operations, and modernization initiatives for banking clients. The role requires a strong blend of payments domain expertise, functional analysis, solution design, system integration understanding, and hands-on delivery experience across U.S. domestic and international wire processing. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of Fedwire, CHIPS, SWIFT, ACI MTS, wire processing rules, payment message flows, exception handling, settlement, reconciliation, production operations, and technology implementation in a regulated banking environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a techno-functional SME for U.S. wire payments across Fedwire, CHIPS, SWIFT, and ACI MTS platforms.
  • Translate business, operations, compliance, and technology needs into detailed functional requirements, solution specifications, interface requirements, process flows, and testable acceptance criteria.
  • Analyze end-to-end wire payment flows covering initiation, validation, repair, authorization, release, sanctions screening, settlement, confirmation, reconciliation, investigations, returns, recalls, and exception handling.
  • Work closely with architects, developers, QA teams, operations users, product owners, compliance stakeholders, and vendor teams to design and implement wire payment solutions.
  • Provide functional and technical guidance on ACI MTS configuration, message routing, payment queues, workflow rules, cut-off processing, exception queues, and operational controls.
  • Support payment integration design involving upstream channels, core banking systems, sanctions screening platforms, liquidity systems, accounting systems, reporting platforms, and downstream clearing networks.
  • Review and validate SWIFT MT/MX, Fedwire, CHIPS, ISO 20022, interface files, APIs, MQ messages, XML mappings, and data transformation requirements.
  • Lead or support SIT, UAT, regression testing, operational readiness testing, test data preparation, defect triage, root cause analysis, and production validation.
  • Support implementation planning, cutover preparation, migration validation, release coordination, production support, and post-implementation stabilization.
  • Analyze production incidents, payment exceptions, reconciliation breaks, message failures, processing delays, and operational pain points to recommend sustainable fixes and process improvements.
Required Qualifications
  • 8–15 years of experience in banking, payments, treasury services, financial technology, or payment platform implementation, with strong focus on wire transfer processing.
  • Extensive techno-functional knowledge of U.S. domestic wire processing using Fedwire and CHIPS.
  • Strong understanding of SWIFT MT/MX message flows, cross-border payments, correspondent banking, payment investigations, and wire exception management.
  • Hands-on experience with ACI Money Transfer System (MTS), including functional configuration, implementation support, operations support, testing, migration, or modernization initiatives.
  • Ability to define and document business requirements, functional specifications, solution design inputs, interface specifications, message mapping rules, process flows, operational procedures, and test scenarios.
  • Good understanding of wire payment lifecycle events including initiation, screening, repair, release, settlement, confirmation, reconciliation, recalls, amendments, returns, investigations, and exceptions.
  • Experience working with integration patterns such as MQ, APIs, file-based interfaces, XML, ISO 20022, SWIFT formats, data mapping, and system-to-system message flows.
  • Experience in bank implementation and operations environments, including production support, operational readiness, control validation, and issue resolution.
  • Knowledge of compliance and risk controls relevant to wires, including sanctions screening, AML, fraud controls, audit requirements, regulatory expectations, and segregation of duties.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops with business users, operations teams, technology teams, vendors, compliance stakeholders, and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Techno-Functional Skills
  • Payment domain analysis: Fedwire, CHIPS, SWIFT, wire processing rules, payment lifecycle, settlement, reconciliation, investigations, and exception management.
  • Platform expertise: ACI MTS functional configuration, queues, workflows, routing, approvals, payment repair, and operational controls.
  • Message and interface analysis: SWIFT MT/MX, ISO 20022, XML, APIs, MQ, file interfaces, field-level mapping, validation rules, and transformation logic.
  • Delivery documentation: BRD, FRD, solution design inputs, interface specifications, process flows, data mappings, test scenarios, operational procedures, and implementation runbooks.
  • Testing and implementation: SIT, UAT, regression testing, defect triage, test data preparation, cutover planning, production validation, and post-go-live support.
  • Operational support: incident analysis, payment exception resolution, reconciliation break analysis, SLA/cut-off monitoring, control checks, and stakeholder communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ISO 20022 payment message standards, SWIFT MT/MX messages, CBPR+, Fedwire modernization, or CHIPS ISO migration.
  • Experience with payment integrations involving MQ, APIs, file interfaces, core banking platforms, sanctions systems, or liquidity platforms.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Agile delivery, release management, and defect triage.
  • Prior experience supporting large banking transformation programs or payment platform modernization initiatives.
  • Exposure to Oracle, SQL, Unix/Linux, XML, XSD, or interface mapping is an advantage.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on techno-functional payments professional who can bridge business operations, technology delivery, and production support for high-value wire payments. The candidate should be able to understand complex payment flows, discuss requirements with operations and compliance users, translate them into functional and technical specifications, support technology teams during build and testing, and remain engaged through implementation, production validation, and stabilization. U.S. banking experience and availability to work with stakeholders in New York and New Jersey are strongly preferred.
