Job summary

Davey Tree Surgery Co. in California seeks a pole technician to inspect and maintain utility poles outdoors. Your daily office is the open air, with hands-on work using a variety of tools and equipment.

The role requires love of the outdoors and the ability to complete safety trainings, with a valid driver's license and potential CDL preference. Travel up to 25% and full-time, on-site work are expected.

Qualifications

• Must love the outdoors and be comfortable working outside in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to complete Electrical Hazard Awareness Program and OSHA training.
• Ability to complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course on hire.
• Required: valid driver’s license; CDL preferred for advance assignments.

Responsibilities

• Inspect utility poles by visually checking for holes and damage to identify issues.
• Execute work orders to tend poles by drilling and filling holes with proper material.
• Follow all safety measures to ensure job site safety and compliance.
• Maintain, prepare, and operate tools and equipment (e.g., hammers, chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts).
• Adapt to daily varied outdoor tasks and new challenges across sites.

Job Duties

• Properly inspect utility poles by visually looking for holes and damage to identify work
• Execute work orders to tend poles by drilling and filling holes with the proper material
• Understand and practice all safety measures to ensure job site safety
• Maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including, hammers, chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more
• Every day there is something new to do!

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors
• Ability to complete Electrical Hazard Awareness Program and OSHA training
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Required: valid driver’s license
• Preferred: Commercial Driver’s License-Class A or B with Airbrake Endorsement
• Preferred: pole test and treat experience or other related work
• Preferred: relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
