Job summary

NSA in Annapolis Junction, MD, is seeking an experienced Technical Writer (Level 3) to author and oversee comprehensive technical documentation for cryptologic systems and DoD programs. You will translate complex concepts into clear docs, lead projects, and ensure compliance with NSA DS-89 and DoD guidelines.

The role requires an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph, a technical degree with extensive writing experience, and collaboration with engineers and SMEs to deliver accurate

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution plus at least 8 years of technical writing experience on programs/contracts of similar scope and complexity.
• Master’s degree in a technical discipline plus at least 6 years of technical writing experience (Master's degree substituting for 2 years of experience).
• 12 years of relevant technical writing experience without a degree (4 additional years substituting for the degree).

Responsibilities

• Author, edit, and maintain complex technical publications, user manuals, SOPs, training guides, and system design specifications.
• Develop defense acquisition lifecycle documentation for DoD electronic systems and cryptologic mission platforms.
• Ensure all documentation products adhere to NSA DS-89 and DoD publication guidelines.
• Conduct in-depth research from engineering data and consultations with technical staff.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and workflows to document software and system data.
• Lead documentation projects coordinating design, formatting, and layout across contributors.
• Perform peer reviews and QA on documentation deliverables.
• Maintain the program's centralized internal documentation repository and library.
• Prepare high-level reports, white papers, and briefings for diverse audiences.
