Job summary

Bixal is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to support a federal Digital Services Platform Engineering contract. This role focuses on architecture documentation, runbooks, ADRs, and developer guidance for secure, auditable platforms.

The position is full-time for one year with potential option years. You will work with platform engineers and PMs to deliver accessible, compliant content and improve the developer experience on sensitive financial systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
8+ years of relevant experience in software engineering or technical writing.
Hands-on experience writing and documenting in a software/engineering context.
Ability to design clear, plain-language content for complex digital workflows.

Responsibilities

Write and maintain Platform Engineering Architecture Blueprint, reference architectures, and Golden Path Templates.
Produce structured Engineering Standards Catalogs, golden-path docs, and progressive guidance.
Author and maintain runbooks, ADRs, and incident/change-management docs for CI/CD, observability, and IaC workflows.
Collaborate with platform/security engineers and product managers to ensure accuracy and integrity.
Apply accessibility standards and compliant language in documentation for sensitive financial systems.
Develop Developer Onboarding Toolkit and Self-Service Platform Portal content.
Research underlying systems and policies to ensure content accuracy.
Use adoption metrics and feedback to refine content and improve developer confidence.
Support Compliance Posture Reports and Platform Maturity Assessments with clear documentation.
Other duties as needed.
