About the Role

This Senior Technical Writer opportunity focuses on developing, editing, validating, and managing accurate, evidence-informed technical documentation for federal health programs. The position involves producing implementation guides, technical reports, standard operating procedures (SOPs), white papers, training materials, and other technical and program-related content. Responsibilities include maintaining documentation quality, ensuring consistency across deliverables, and translating complex technical information into clear, accessible language for different audiences.

The role combines technical writing, structured content development, document management, and stakeholder review coordination. The successful candidate will work with subject matter experts (SMEs), clinicians, researchers, program managers, communications specialists, and federal stakeholders to validate information, document technical requirements, and maintain traceability from source evidence to final deliverables. Experience with healthcare communications, content management systems, collaborative documentation tools, and repeatable writing workflows is essential.

What You'll Do
  • Develop, write, edit, and maintain technical documentation, implementation guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical reports, white papers, literature summaries, training materials, website content, fact sheets, and program documentation.
  • Translate complex technical, clinical, research, and program information into accurate, well-structured content for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, clinicians, researchers, program managers, communications specialists, and federal stakeholders to gather source information, verify technical accuracy, resolve review comments, and align documentation with program objectives.
  • Create and maintain reusable structured content assets, including approved language libraries, evidence tables, FAQ repositories, plain-language modules, executive summary templates, audience-specific message maps, and review-ready document templates.
  • Support technical content strategy, message development, stakeholder review cycles, document version control, quality assurance, and document management across multiple concurrent deliverables.
  • Maintain consistent terminology, document structure, editorial standards, and source traceability throughout technical documentation and content development workflows.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, project teams, and technical resources to document data flows between integrated applications and map business process activities to application dependencies.
  • Support functional allocation activities by documenting required tasks, technical dependencies, and relationships between application components and business processes.
  • Coordinate technical design sessions, capture meeting notes, document decisions, and follow up with stakeholders to resolve outstanding action items.
  • Revise technical documentation based on design discussions, technical specifications, documented requirements, and stakeholder-provided materials.
  • Manage documentation updates and quality reviews to ensure technical deliverables are accurate, complete, consistent, and ready for formal submission.
  • Help establish repeatable documentation workflows that minimize manual rework, improve content consistency, and maintain audit-ready traceability between source evidence and published materials.
Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Approximately 5+ years of professional experience in technical writing, professional editing, or technical communications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or editing technical reports, clinical guidance, educational materials, website content, program documentation, training materials, or executive-level briefing documents.
  • Experience producing clear, accurate documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience managing multiple documentation deliverables, editorial deadlines, stakeholder review cycles, and competing project priorities.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical writing, editing, proofreading, and document development skills, with exceptional command of grammar, structure, tone, plain language, and document organization.
  • Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation guides, SOPs, structured content, reusable document templates, and audience-specific technical materials.
  • Familiarity with structured content development, modular writing, content reuse, metadata tagging, content management systems, and document templates.
  • Knowledge of collaborative documentation platforms, reference management tools, document review processes, and workflow automation.
  • Ability to establish repeatable writing and documentation workflows that reduce manual revisions, improve consistency, and maintain audit-ready source traceability.
  • Strong understanding of technical terminology, healthcare delivery systems, and health communications principles.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging documentation and content tools for suitability, operational risk, security, usability, accessibility, source traceability, federal stakeholder requirements, and quality control needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and collaborative document review tools.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including coordination of simultaneous deliverables, deadlines, document revisions, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical specialists and program stakeholders to validate source information, document technical requirements, and maintain documentation accuracy.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States indefinitely without employer sponsorship.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • The position may be subject to client-specific or government-mandated vaccination, health, or workplace safety requirements, which may change over time.
