Job summary

Cobalt Digital is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join our Champaign, Illinois office. This 100% on-site role requires converting complex electronics product details into clear manuals, guides, and release notes.

The candidate will work closely with Engineering to document product operation and create diagrams, with occasional collaboration for marketing materials. On-site only with relocation possible for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a technical writer or copy editor in electronics.

Responsibilities

• Plan, write, and maintain documentation for hardware and software products.
• Create and update product manuals, installation manuals, release notes, and online help.
• Collaborate with engineering to document product operation and workflows.
• Support marketing with website updates, diagrams, and product photography as needed.

Job description

Cobalt Digital designs and manufactures award-winning ST 2110 and SDI conversion, compression, processing, routing, control, and multiviewer technology for the production, broadcast television, and ProAV environments. Cobalt offers a full range of video and audio processing openGear compliant solutions and other form factors for production trucks, master control, news, signal transport, and audio loudness processing.

Role Description

This is a 100% on-site role . The selected candidate will work daily from our office located in Champaign, Illinois . Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this position. The Senior Technical Writer will plan, write, and maintain clear and accurate documentation for Cobalt Digital’s hardware and software products, including user guides, installation manuals, release notes, and online help.

Responsibilities:

• Works with the technical staff to understand and document product operation.
• Creates and updates product manuals, including screenshots, drawings, and diagrams.
• Candidate is expected to learn how to operate the products with assistance from Engineering and document them.
• Works with the marketing department to support their activities, including the following:
• Maintenance of the Cobalt Digital web site. This includes minor edits, corrections, and additions.
• Creates drawings and block diagrams to illustrate product operation.
• Optional but highly desirable: capable of taking and editing product photographs.

Requirements:

• Must be willing to work on-site in Champaign, Illinois
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize between tasks with guidance from management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, and image editing tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or industry experience.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience as a technical writer or copy editor in the electronics industry.
