Job summary

HRL Laboratories in Malibu, CA is seeking a senior technical project manager for the Materials and Microsystems Laboratory to lead rapid-paced, transformative technology development projects in sensors and advanced materials.

You will coordinate PIs, manage bids and proposals, plan, and oversee teams and subcontractors to ensure on-time delivery while aligning with strategic goals in a fast-paced, government-funded environment.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in a science or engineering field.
• 8+ years of project management experience in R&D or government funded projects.
• Experience with contracting, sub-contracting, supplier management, finance, and legal.
• Ability to re-plan and communicate changes as information and results evolve.
• Broad technical background; MEMS familiarity is desirable.
• IMS, critical path, earned value analysis, and MIS reporting experience.
• Proficiency with MS Project and MS Office.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Strategic planning, scheduling, and management of multi-phase projects.
• Plan and advocate resources (personnel, equipment, space).
• Communicate cost and schedule risk to customers and leadership.
• Provide programmatic, financial, and technical reporting.
• Engage teams on execution progress and risk management.
• Recommend opportunities to improve execution to senior management.
• Prioritize staffing to maximize innovation and maturation.
