Job summary

Apex Companies, LLC is seeking a Senior Transportation Project Engineer to lead complex roadway projects from our Quincy or Woburn, MA offices. The role blends technical leadership with coordination across design disciplines, subconsultants, and clients, ensuring projects meet scope, budget, and schedule.

The ideal candidate brings a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering, 5+ years of roadway design, and a PE license or progress toward licensure within a year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• PE license or pursuing licensure within one year.
• 5+ years of roadway design experience.
• Strong writing skills for memoranda, reports, proposals, contracts, and subcontract scopes of work.
• AutoCAD experience required.
• Knowledge of MassDOT plan set requirements and design process is a plus.
• Complete Streets experience is a strong plus.
• Valid US driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Technical Lead for transportation components on complex projects.
• Coordinate among design disciplines and subconsultants.
• Lead development of 3D roadway design models using AutoCAD Civil3D per MassDOT standards.
• Oversee or prepare plan sets, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist Project Managers with planning, coordination, and execution of projects.
• Develop technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals.
• Maintain client relationships and mentor junior staff.
• Prepare presentations to public boards, clients, and associations.
