Job summary

G-III Apparel Group in New York City is seeking a Technical Designer to join the Sports Apparel team, supporting development across multiple product categories, including cut & sew and outerwear across men’s, women’s, and youth, as well as swimwear.

This role will partner closely with Design, Production, vendors, and cross-functional teams to ensure consistent fit, accurate specifications, product quality, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of Technical Design or related experience.
• Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, grading, and specification development.
• Experience across multiple product categories including cut & sew, outerwear and swimwear.
• Experience conducting live-model fittings and communicating with overseas vendors.
• Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with PLM systems and Illustrator.

Responsibilities

• Develop initial specifications using reference samples, historical specs and fit standards.
• Create and release size specs, grading rules, and fitting comments for vendors.
• Collaborate with domestic and overseas vendors to resolve fit and technical issues.
• Evaluate TOP samples and provide final production comments; review inspection reports.
• Maintain awareness of retailer-specific fit, testing, labeling and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate live-model fittings, including scheduling, measurements and comments.
• Update block specifications to ensure consistency across product categories.
• Partner with Technical Design leadership on special projects and process improvements.
• Create and maintain sample log charts with dates, tests and approvals.
• Monitor production status and inform of delays or issues for key accounts (Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, QVC, HSN).
• Support new purchase orders with specifications and fittings as needed.
• Follow up on lab testing and approve care labels; maintain technical docs.
