Senior Technical Designer – Children’s Apparel
Reports to: Director of Technical Design
Position type: We’re hiring a Senior Technical Designer with 8+ years of experience to lead technical development for our children’s apparel line at a top-tier manufacturing company. This role requires deep expertise in fit, construction, compliance, and PLM. Familiarity with 3D pattern development platforms is a strong plus.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the end-to-end technical development process from design hand-off through PP & TOP approval.
- Oversee and guide the creation of tech packs, BOMs, graded specs, and construction details in PLM.
- Drive and manage fit sessions, evaluate samples, and provide detailed and corrective feedback to ensure design intent and compliance are met.
- Collaborate closely with Design, Product Development, and Production to maintain brand standards in quality and fit.
- Act as the key technical liaison with overseas factories; troubleshoot issues, mentor junior team members, and uphold development timelines.
- Ensure adherence to children’s wear compliance, safety, and regulatory standards across all product categories.
- Use PLM to manage workflows, vendor communications, and sample tracking.
- Champion digital innovation, including 3D pattern development using platforms like Browzwear for virtual sampling and prototyping.
- Identify process gaps, implement improvements, and contribute to departmental best practices and standards.
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in technical design, with at least 3 years focused on children’s apparel
- Ability to handle multiple competing needs, bringing each to timely conclusions
- Ability to multi-task and context switch between various product need demands
- Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Photoshop
- Experience working in BeProduct PLM, Bamboo Rose, and Browzwear is a plus.
- Deep understanding of garment construction, grading, and fit across multiple children’s categories
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards for children’s apparel
- Experience managing factory relationships and mentoring junior team members
- Excellent communication, time management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Design, Fashion Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
