Job summary

Fourth Floor is seeking a Senior Technical Designer to join our womenswear team in New York City. The role focuses on leading technical development, fit, and production communication with overseas factories to ensure high-quality garments.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of experience in apparel construction, patternmaking, and manufacturing, with strong fitting and technical communication skills. This hybrid role requires 3 days on site in NYC and offers growth within a dynamic brand

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in technical design for apparel.
• Strong knowledge of apparel construction, fit, patternmaking, and manufacturing.
• Experience with woven and knit categories.
• Strong fitting and technical communication skills.
• Knowledge of measurements, specifications, tolerances, and grading.
• Experience working with overseas factories and vendors.
• Understanding of the product development process from initial development through production.
• Ability to interpret patterns and technical specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Manage the technical development and fit process.
• Review samples and provide fit and construction feedback.

• Collaborate with Design, Production, Sourcing, Pattern, and Quality teams.
• Communicate technical updates with overseas factories and vendors.
• Maintain and review technical documentation and specifications.
• Partner with factories to ensure quality, fit, and construction standards.
• Provide guidance on garment construction, materials, trims, and production techniques.
• Support the resolution of production issues and ensure consistency through bulk production.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the technical team.
