Job description

Department: Technical Design

At ASTR The Label, we’re inspired by the feminine. Since the brand’s inception in 2012, our female-led collective has been committed to creating easygoing clothing that empowers the modern woman. From upgraded basics to sophisticated occasion-wear and flirty silhouettes, consider us your new go-to for everyday attire that’s equal parts stylish and functional.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Designer to lead product execution from initial concept through production. In this role, you will be the bridge between Design, Development, and Global Sourcing—ensuring brand integrity, exceptional fit, and superior construction quality. You will oversee and coordinate fit sessions, direct technical documentation, and collaborate closely with cross-functional team members and vendors to bring our design vision to life without compromising functionality or cost targets.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage & Lead Fit Sessions: Manage, schedule, and coordinate fit sessions with live fit models, partner technical designers, and cross-functional teams to properly execute design's vision for fit, balance, styling, and functionality.
  • Vendor & Pattern Communication: Provide vendors with detailed, image-driven fit corrections, block pattern references, and technical packages via PLM to ensure proper pattern shape, balance, and adherence to brand "best practices."
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with Designers to translate creative vision into precise technical specifications, size scales, and style information.
  • Quality & Production Risk Management: Proactively identify potential manufacturing and quality risks. Recommend raw materials, components, and construction techniques that optimize fit while upholding design intent and brand standards.
  • Fit Integrity & Consistency: Maintain consistent fit standards throughout the development lifecycle, continuously evaluating body size, shape, and garment ergonomics for our target customer.
  • Technical Mentorship & Workflow: Help guide junior and peer technical designers during fit evaluations to maintain team alignment and ensure execution standards across all apparel categories.
What You’ll Have
  • Experience & Education: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Design, Fashion Design, or equivalent industry experience, with a minimum of 5+ years of progressive technical design experience.
  • Technical Mastery: Advanced expertise in patternmaking (manual and CAD), garment construction, grading, body proportion analysis, and offshore manufacturing processes.
  • Session Management: Proven track record of directing, managing, and facilitating efficient, outcome-oriented fit sessions with models and design teams.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong hands-on proficiency in PLM systems, Adobe Illustrator, and Microsoft Office (specifically Excel).
  • Costing & Market Awareness: Advanced knowledge of apparel construction and costing drivers, paired with an understanding of global market trends and competitive benchmarks.
  • Execution & Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a proven track record of delivering accurate data on-time and in-full in a fast-paced environment.
What You Can Expect From Us
  • Competitive Compensation: Top-tier base salary benchmarked against industry standards.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Full medical, dental, and vision suite, plus wellness programs.
  • Financial Future: 401(k) plan with company contribution/match options.
  • Growth & Mentorship: Direct access to industry veterans and leadership dedicated to helping you advance your career.
