Job summary

Material is seeking a Technical Architect to lead the architectural evolution of a large-scale enterprise platform. You will drive target-state architecture, oversee modernization efforts, and mentor engineers while collaborating with client Product Managers during EST hours.

The role demands 12+ years in software, 5+ years as an architect, and strong Java/Spring/AWS expertise, with a focus on data platforms and backend processing. Hybrid NYC-based position.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in software engineering
• 5+ years as Technical Architect or Principal Engineer
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs and microservices
• Deep AWS experience including Glue, Lambda, S3, IAM, CloudWatch
• Proficiency with data platforms: PostgreSQL, Snowflake, ETL, data modeling
• DevOps tooling experience: Tomcat, CI/CD, Git
• Client-facing consulting experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Own target-state architecture and technology roadmap; define standards and design principles
• Lead architecture reviews and drive platform modernization initiatives
• Serve as senior technical leader during EST hours; align with client stakeholders
• Mentor architects and engineers; review critical code changes
• Provide architectural leadership for AWS Glue ETL pipelines, PostgreSQL and Snowflake
• Lead cloud-native modernization for scalability, observability, reliability and security
• Lead Sev-1/Sev-2 incident reviews and RCAs; reduce technical debt
• Drive governance forums and roadmap discussions with client teams
