Our client is seeking a Senior Technical Accountant to join their accounting team and provide technical accounting expertise across a growing oil and gas organization. This position will be responsible for researching and interpreting accounting guidance, supporting complex accounting transactions, preparing technical accounting analyses and memos, and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to partner with accounting, finance, operations, and external auditors on complex transactions and reporting matters. Experience in the oil and gas is mandatory.

Job Details
Key Responsibilities
- Research and interpret U.S. GAAP and accounting standards and assess their application to company transactions.
- Prepare technical accounting memos and documentation supporting complex and non-routine transactions.
- Evaluate accounting treatment for acquisitions, divestitures, asset purchases, leases, revenue arrangements, debt, equity transactions, and other significant transactions.
- Support the accounting team with the implementation of new accounting standards and changes in regulatory guidance.
- Assist with the preparation and review of financial statements and related disclosures.
- Partner with accounting and finance teams to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP.
- Analyze and document accounting conclusions for complex oil and gas transactions, including acquisitions, asset sales, joint ventures, and other industry-specific arrangements.
- Support accounting for oil and gas properties, including impairment analysis, asset retirement obligations, depletion, depreciation, and related accounting considerations.
- Assist with purchase accounting and valuation-related accounting matters associated with acquisitions.
- Coordinate with external auditors and provide technical accounting support during annual and quarterly audits.
- Monitor changes in accounting standards and assess potential impacts on the organization.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and controls.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities as needed.
- Support special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant technical accounting experience.
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience researching accounting standards and preparing technical accounting memos.
- Oil and gas or energy industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, or complex transactions is a plus.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, internal controls, and audit processes.
- Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Exceptional analytical, research, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
