Job summary

Nebraska Medicine in Omaha is seeking an Associate General Counsel - Technology to provide strategic legal counsel on information technology, data governance, and digital innovation across our academic health system.

This role focuses on enterprise IT initiatives, privacy compliance, AI governance, and technology agreements, with remote work options within the contiguous United States and a compensation range of $158,683 to $238,035 annually.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of practice in law firms or in-house legal departments.
• Experience drafting and negotiating contracts.
• JD degree required.
• Licensed to practice law in Nebraska or willing to obtain Nebraska license within 6 months.
• Strong communication, analytical and multitasking abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal counsel on enterprise IT initiatives including cloud services, SaaS, EHR integrations and digital health tools.
• Drafts, reviews and negotiates complex technology agreements including software licenses and data use agreements.
• Advises IT and operational leaders on data rights, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.
• Advises on HIPAA, state privacy laws and cross-border data transfer requirements.
• Advises on AI governance, ethics, risk, transparency and governance.
• Supports AI governance frameworks and reviews AI incidents or events.
• Counsels on responsible deployment of AI in operations, research and patient care contexts.
• Advises on compliant data commercialization and monetization strategies balancing innovation and regulatory obligations.
