Distinct | North America in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to lead a tax portfolio for individuals and businesses. You will review complex returns, mentor staff, and advise on tax strategies while collaborating with Partners to shape the tax department’s direction.
The role emphasizes client relationships, accuracy, and delivering value across the firm as it grows within a larger national network. Strong CPA or EA credentials are expected.
An experienced Tax Manager would be considered
There's a lot to love about working for a smaller CPA firm. The relationships, the familiarity, knowing your clients by name rather than just the number on their tax return.
But there are also things a larger firm can offer that are pretty hard to compete with.
Better technology. More resources. Greater opportunities to progress.
So, what happens when you bring the two together?
This established Raleigh CPA firm has recently joined a national organisation, giving the team access to the resources and opportunities of a much larger business, without losing the culture and relationships that made the firm successful in the first place.
And with the Raleigh office continuing to grow, there's an opportunity for a Senior Tax Manager, or strong Tax Manager to have a real say in what comes next.
You'll work closely with the Partners, manage a varied portfolio of Individual and Business Tax clients, provide advice on complex tax matters and help develop the next generation of tax professionals.
But this isn't just about managing the work that's already there.
There's room to make your mark.
Whether that's building stronger client relationships, improving how things are done or helping shape the direction of the tax department, your ideas will be welcomed. And if Director or Partner is where you'd eventually like to be, there's a much bigger platform to help you get there.
Of course, career progression means very little if you're too busy working to enjoy the rest of your life.
The firm offers generous PTO, a Christmas shutdown (because nobody should be thinking about tax returns until January), paid parental leave, health insurance, a 401(k) and an annual firm retreat.
They're looking for someone with at least 5+ years of Public Accounting experience, a CPA or EA qualification and a strong generalist Tax background. You'll need to be comfortable managing clients, reviewing complex returns and mentoring staff.
Experience with Construction clients or CCH Axcess would be a bonus, but neither is essential.
The Raleigh team enjoys being together in the office, so ideally you'll be happy coming in four days a week, with some flexibility available.
If you've enjoyed the personal side of a smaller firm but started wondering whether you've outgrown the opportunities available to you, this could be a very interesting next step.
