Job summary

Highmark Health is seeking an experienced tax professional to ensure quality and accuracy of routine tax assignments and special projects across corporate and affiliated entities.

The role includes leading QA reviews for significant transactions, conducting research on proposed legislation, and mentoring junior staff. A CPA is preferred and a Bachelor's in Accounting is required. Office-based or remote work options are available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or relevant experience; CPA preferred
  • Experience with ASC 740, tax compliance, and tax planning
  • Quality assurance/control experience or supervisory responsibility

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality and accuracy of tax assignments across corporate and affiliate entities
  • Lead QA reviews for significant transactions (mergers, acquisitions, divestitures)
  • Identify tax risks in transactions and provide mitigation strategies
  • Provide guidance and training to junior tax staff
  • Develop and maintain internal tax procedures and controls
  • Conduct tax research on special projects and potential legislation
  • Advise on tax implications of proposed transactions
  • Prepare audit-ready memoranda and documentation to support tax positions
  • Review third-party opinions and maintain internal control over tax planning activities
  • Assist in reporting tax impacts and defending positions during audits
  • Perform other duties as assigned
