Job summary

Highmark Health is seeking a senior tax professional to ensure the quality and accuracy of tax assignments across insurance and non-insurance tax matters. You will lead QA reviews, guide junior staff, and support internal controls and tax planning on special projects.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Accounting (Master's preferred) and 7+ years in tax with QA or supervisory experience; CPA preferred but not required. Office-based or remote, with <25% travel.

Qualifications

• 7 years of progressive experience in tax with QA or supervisory roles.
• Experience in ASC 740, tax compliance and planning.
• Experience reviewing the work of others.
• Auditing experience or accounting background preferred.
• Statutory accounting knowledge of insurance taxation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality and accuracy of tax assignments across a wide range of matters.
• Lead QA reviews of tax work for significant transactions.
• Identify, mitigate and navigate tax risks in transactions and projects.
• Provide guidance and training to junior tax staff as needed.
• Support development and maintenance of internal tax procedures and controls.
• Perform tax research and planning on assigned projects, including legislative changes.
• Advise on tax implications of proposed transactions and activities.
• Prepare memoranda and audit-ready documentation under ASC 740.
• Manage tax uncertainty and defend positions during audits.
• Assist in reporting tax planning impact in tax returns and financial statements.
• Other duties as assigned.
