Job summary

The University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics seeks a Senior Laboratory Specialist for the Target Fabrication Group. You will assemble millimeter-scale targets in a cleanroom, operate advanced equipment, and contribute to critical experiments at the OMEGA facility.

You will organize materials, maintain apparatus, and mentor staff on technical issues and procedures while supporting multiple small-scale projects in a fast-paced research environment at UR.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience required.
• Master’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• PhD preferred.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Soldering millimeter-scale components in cleanroom environment preferred.
• Knowledge of operating vacuum deposition systems preferred.
• Knowledge of vacuum leak instrumentation preferred.
• Knowledge of compressed gas systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assembles millimeter-scale components in a cleanroom and develops operating procedures.
• Operates complex scientific equipment and develops critical research data.
• Coordinates service, including repair of equipment and requisitioning supplies.
• Recommends expenditures for major laboratory equipment and construction.
• Other duties as assigned.
