Job summary

The University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) is looking for its next Experimental Operations Technician. You will assist in the assembly, alignment, and testing of optical and mechanical components used in lasers, imaging systems, and related instruments.

This on-site role requires reliability, careful documentation, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Applicants should be prepared for day and evening shifts and to support laser physics experiments and quality control

Qualifications

• Associates degree in science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
• 1 year or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical position.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a team-based environment.
• Experience with radiological materials and film/image plate processing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the assembly, alignment, and testing of optical and mechanical components used in devices such as lasers, imaging systems, and other optical instruments.
• Ensures the proper functioning and calibration of optical systems.
• May collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues, document procedures, and contribute to the overall manufacturing and quality control processes.
• Load/unload X-Ray film and image plate cartridges used in nuclear physics experiments.
• Process photographic film and image plate.
• Maintain film processing equipment and chemistry.
• Support the operation of various equipment and diagnostics related to laser physics experiments
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and optical issues
• Perform regular preventative maintenance
• Maintain complex vacuum systems
• Troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Qualify as a NYS Radiation Worker
• Maintain radiological containment areas
• Create and update system documentation and procedures.
• Morning and Evening shift work is required.
