Job summary

The University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and improve mechanical systems and components for high-precision targets. You will lead projects, generate drawings, and perform safety and thermal analyses in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

This full-time role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with at least five years of relevant experience, and proficiency in CAD and FEA tools, preferably Siemens NX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of relevant experience preferred.
• Proficient with CAD software and FEA tools.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual and detailed mechanical designs and assemblies as required.
• Prepare technical drawings in accordance with industry standards.
• Provide safety and engineering analyses as needed.
• Prepare materials for engineering design reviews.
• Support the Target Fabrication Group for targets manufacturing (design, drawings, procurement).
• Design and test equipment for Target R&D, including vacuum, vapor deposition, and cryogenic systems.
• Perform finite element analysis of structures and thermal designs.
