Job Description

The systems (electronic) technicians provide systems design and technical documentation, installation, component level repair, and operational support for a wide array of electronic communications systems and equipment. They are proficient in the use of tools and test equipment to troubleshoot problems and effect repairs. They provide routine preventative maintenance for conference and TV production facilities, radio systems, and TV post-production systems and equipment. They also support fabrication where required and install and maintain short- and long-haul signal distribution systems utilizing copper cable and fiber optic routing and switching.

The system (electronic) technicians offer advanced conference operation services to support audio and video teleconferences, fiber hub network feeds, VOIP, and satellite television broadcasts. They design, document, install, and maintain intra- and inter-facility audio and video transmission subsystems at DOE/HQ in Washington, DC, and Germantown, MD.

Experience:

• Five years of experience and knowledge of operation, repair, and installation of audiovisual equipment.
• Maintain and enhance in-house cable TV infrastructure.
• Relevant AV experience with projectors, video relay, broadcast, and design.
• Technical aptitude toward AV systems, video conferencing, computer technology, networking, wireless, and data cabling standards.
• Organizational and planning skills to set up weekly events in conference rooms or offsite.
• Low voltage cabling installation.
• Experience with digital AV installation and maintenance.
• Training customers on system usage.
• Experience in commercial AV installations.
• Installing and/or configuring Polycom and Tandberg videoconferencing products.
• Working knowledge of basic hand tools for installations.
• Mechanical/fabrication and soldering skills are a plus.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams accurately.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and proven face-to-face customer support skills.
• Ability to multi-task on several projects or issues.
