Job summary

AV is seeking a highly experienced Principal Systems Engineer to lead systems engineering for a family of unmanned systems for defense and commercial use. You will drive MBSE, architecture definition, and verification planning, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and representing SE in customer reviews.

You will mentor engineers, advance SE best practices, maintain core documentation, and support system trade studies and risk analyses across programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mathematics, CS/Engineering, Electrical or related fields.
• 15+ years of experience in architecting and supporting complex defense/aerospace systems.
• Experience with MBSE, SysML, and architecture artifacts (ICDs, CONOPS, trade studies).
• Proven ability to manage requirements across hardware, software, and integration.
• Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements decomposition, MBSE models, and interface definitions.
• Plan verification/validation and develop test strategies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain SE documentation (SEMP/OSMP, interface control plans).
• Represent SE in customer meetings and design reviews; mentor junior engineers.
• Lead and mentor teams; drive MBSE adoption and process improvements.
• Identify design weaknesses and influence future product architectures.
• Travel up to 15% for meetings, reviews, and test events.
