Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for the AV Fleet Data Engineering team to lead end-to-end data-collection capabilities for ADAS and automated-driving development. You will translate stakeholder use cases into system-level strategies and verification plans, coordinating across vehicles, simulation, cloud pipelines, and connected fleet campaigns.

The Role

The AV Fleet Data Engineering team is responsible for the end-to-end design, requirements, integration, validation, and execution of AV/ADAS data-collection capabilities. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead the definition and delivery of Retail AV Data Collection solutions that support ADAS and automated-driving development, fleet monitoring, machine-learning data collection, regulatory compliance, and product improvement.

What You’ll Do

You will translate stakeholder and customer use cases into system-level strategies, feature-level requirements, functional specifications, architecture concepts, and verification plans. This role will lead hands‑on systems engineering across vehicles, benches, simulation and playback environments, cloud/data pipelines, and connected fleet campaigns. The engineer will work closely with software, platform, vehicle integration, quality, data engineering, ADAS, AV, product, legal, and regulatory teams to deliver scalable and reliable data‑recording solutions.

• Gather and analyze stakeholder, customer, ADAS, AV, regulatory, privacy, and machine-learning use cases.
• Decompose product requirements into stakeholder use cases, feature-level specifications, system requirements, interfaces, constraints, and verification criteria.
• Define system strategies for recording triggers, signals, topics, recording durations, data quality, compute and storage budgets, data offload, privacy, consent, geofencing, and vehicle compatibility.
• Develop system-level test strategies, use cases, test cases, functional checks, and validation plans for new functionality.
• Coordinate with software and platform teams to communicate requirements, defects, dependencies, risks, and release impacts.
• Ensure system designs account for customer consent, privacy, legal constraints, geofencing, regional requirements, and regulatory data-recording needs.
• Support data-collection request intake by clarifying use cases, identifying available signals, defining trigger logic, assessing pipeline limitations, and determining required software or architecture changes.
• Identify opportunities to improve requirements quality, systems engineering processes, test automation, configuration management, release readiness, and stakeholder communication.
• Make technical recommendations based on analysis, communicate lessons learned, and keep engineering leadership informed of assignment status, timing, risks, and technical issues.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to reusable systems‑engineering standard work, documentation, and technical training.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• 5+ years of systems engineering, requirements engineering, embedded systems, automotive software, or related engineering experience.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional technical activities involving multiple engineering disciplines.
• Experience translating customer or stakeholder needs into system requirements, functional specifications, interfaces, and verification criteria.
• Experience with requirements management and traceability tools, preferably DNG.
• Strong understanding of complex electrical, mechanical, software, and vehicle system concepts.
• High level of analytical ability and demonstrated success solving unusual or complex technical problems.
• Experience defining and executing system-level test cases and validation strategies.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including technical presentations and requirements reviews.
• Ability to work independently, influence technical decisions, and drive issues to closure.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

• Experience with DNG, Jira, Confluence, SysML, UML, or similar systems‑engineering tools.
• Experience with CAN, LIN, GMLAN, FlexRay, Ethernet, SOME/IP, or other vehicle communication protocols.
• Experience with QNX, Linux, Android, Azure, cloud data platforms, or embedded software environments.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, shell scripting, or test‑automation frameworks.
• Experience supporting regulatory, privacy, consent, geofencing, or data‑governance requirements.
• DFSS Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
