Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer for the Lunar Permanence team to set requirements, safety, and verification standards across the system and to serve as the senior technical voice to NASA on the Human Landing System.

You will drive system-level decisions, mentor engineers, and define lean, tool-driven processes using Jama, Cameo, Windchill, and DOORS to enhance efficiency while ensuring mission assurance. Occasional travel and relocation may be required.

Qualifications

• B.S. in aerospace, systems, or a related engineering field (advanced degree preferred); an advanced degree may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement
• 10+ years of systems engineering experience with demonstrated technical authority and/or system-level leadership across requirements, system safety, and V&V
• Ownership across the full SE lifecycle — requirements, safety, integration, and V&V — with familiarity across multiple functional areas
• Recognized go-to technical expert for a major system or program — solving problems and setting methods others adopted
• Ability to set technical standards and earn adoption across teams without relying on positional authority
• Customer-facing technical interface experience (NASA or comparable government/prime customer)

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal technical authority for system-level engineering across the team — requirements, system safety, and V&V
• Set technical standards for requirements decomposition, verification planning, and hazard disposition across design IPTs
• Resolve ambiguous, high-consequence technical problems and cross-cutting inter-element issues
• Carry system-level technical decisions and reviews to leadership and the customer
• Define and improve requirements, safety, and V&V processes; earn buy-in across the program and NASA
• Act as senior interface with NASA on requirements, verification, and system safety
• Advise NASA on how Blue's lean approach meets needs and intent
• Lead lean, tool-driven workflows (Jama, Cameo, Windchill, DOORS) and reduce manual effort at scale
• Design workflows that minimize hand-offs and emphasize tool-driven processes for mission assurance
