Job summary

Northrop Grumman’s Flight Systems Futures unit in Utah seeks a Principal Systems Engineer to join a team advancing hypersonic re-entry vehicles and payloads. You will drive rapid development, prototype validation, and cross-functional reviews in a fast-paced, mission-driven setting.

The role requires a Secret clearance, strong MBSE and requirements mastery, and experience with external suppliers. Competitive benefits and a 9/80 schedule are included.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems, Software, or related STEM field with 5 years of experience; or 3 years with a Master's (MS); or 1 year with a STEM PhD.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application, with ability to obtain SAP approval.
  • 1+ years experience with SysML MBSE tools and developing system models.
  • 1+ years experience in writing, managing, and tracing complex requirements using DOORS, Jama, or Polarion.
  • 1+ years experience managing external suppliers or subcontractors for complex hardware or services.
  • 1+ years experience reading technical drawings, specs, and statements of work; flowing requirements to suppliers.
  • Strong skills in schedule and cost tracking using ERP/MRP and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Responsible Engineer for hardware and software items from vendors or internal work orders.
  • Interpret drawings, datasheets, and test reports to assess applicability to requirements.
  • Collaborate with vendors to resolve technical challenges while protecting cost, schedule, and performance targets.
  • Review and approve deliverables from subcontractors.
  • Assist in managing subcontractor statements of work and performance (may require travel).
  • Maintain configuration control and ensure all items meet engineering standards (CMMI, MILSTD498).
  • Provide regular status reports and risk updates to program leadership.
  • Participate in cross-functional reviews and support source selection activities as needed.
  • Document decisions, nonconformances, and corrective actions in requirements traceability tools.
