Job summary

Atoms in San Francisco seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to own diagnostics and failure analysis across our development fleet. You will translate logs, telemetry, bus traces and video into root causes, and build diagnostic tooling that scales such analysis to prevent reoccurring issues.

This onsite role requires strong vehicle-network knowledge, Python tooling, and fleet data management, with five days per week in SF and collaboration across hardware, software, AI, and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field is required.
• 6+ years in systems integration, diagnostics, or hardware and software interface engineering on vehicles.
• L4 program or production ADAS experience.
• Proven track record diagnosing failures spanning hardware and software with established root causes.
• Ability to correlate hardware symptoms with telemetry and bus data into a timeline.
• Strong knowledge of CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet and DTCs.
• Python and command line log analysis; building production tools.
• Experience with monitoring/observability platforms and fleet-scale log management.

Responsibilities

• Triage and classify failures as software, firmware, hardware, data path, or system-level regressions with evidence.
• Investigate novel failures using logs, telemetry, bus traces, and video to establish root cause.
• Build parsing, correlation, and visualization for large log datasets.
• Develop automated classification to detect known failure signatures.
• Own monitoring of the logging path, including dropped frames and timestamp drift.
• Perform severity and trend analysis; identify failure clusters for priority.
• Author troubleshooting guides and set the standard for root cause analysis.
