Job summary

Atoms is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to own diagnostics and failure analysis across its development fleet, spanning multiple vehicle platforms. You will take failures from logs to root cause, shaping triage, severity modeling, and the tooling that speeds diagnosis.

Regular garage and vehicle work are part of the role. You will classify failures, investigate novel issues with logs, telemetry, bus traces, and video, and build automated classification to prevent repeat incidents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• 6+ years in systems integration, diagnostics, or hardware and software interface engineering on vehicles.
• L4 program or production ADAS experience.
• Track record diagnosing failures spanning hardware and software with root cause.
• Correlation of hardware symptoms, video evidence with telemetry and bus data.
• Sensor-level troubleshooting on cameras, lidar, radar, GNSS and IMU.
• Knowledge of CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, and DTCs.
• Python and command-line log analysis for production tooling.
• Experience with fleet data logging and fleet-scale log management.
• Willingness to work onsite five days a week in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

• Triage and classify failures as software, firmware, hardware, data path, or system-level regressions with evidence.
• Conduct root cause analysis for novel failures using logs, telemetry, bus traces, and video.
• Develop parsing, correlation, and visualization tools for large log datasets.
• Build automated classification frameworks to detect known failure signatures.
• Ensure data path integrity by monitoring logging paths, timestamps, bandwidth, and storage.
• Perform severity and trend analysis to identify high-priority failure clusters.
• Document RCA standards and author troubleshooting guides.
