Job description

Senior Systems Engineer – EO/IR Processing

At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer – EO/IR Processing to support one of our premier programs. In this role, you will collaborate on the design, development, prototyping, integration, testing, and performance assessment of radio frequency (RF) or electro‑optical/infrared (EO/IR) signal processing algorithms and models. These technologies support mission‑critical products and new business initiatives by extracting and processing sensor data for calibration, noise reduction, object detection, acquisition, tracking, classification, and sensor fusion. You will work closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to develop innovative signal processing solutions that enhance system performance and mission effectiveness.

What You Will Do
  • Apply advanced signal processing expertise to support the development, execution, and delivery of complex missile systems programs
  • Develop, modify, and utilize simulations to support the design, prototyping, integration, testing, and performance assessment of signal processing algorithms and models
  • Support engineering laboratory activities to test, verify, and validate sensor models and signal processing algorithm performance against system requirements
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to integrate algorithms into hardware and support development activities from program initiation through live‑fire testing
  • Participate in design reviews, peer reviews, and technical briefings, communicating technical solutions to stakeholders across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing across the team
Qualifications – You Must Have
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant prior experience
  • Experience developing or applying signal processing techniques within the electro‑optical/infrared (EO/IR), radio frequency (RF), sonar, or acoustic domains
  • Experience programming in C or applying object‑oriented programming principles using C++, C#, or Java
  • Experience designing, implementing, testing, analyzing, and optimizing signal processing algorithms
  • Active and transferable DoD Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance is required prior to start date, with the ability to obtain special program access after start
  • U.S. citizenship is required
Qualifications – We Prefer
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related STEM field
  • Experience supporting missile systems development programs
  • Experience using version control tools such as Azure DevOps and Git
  • Experience developing or applying signal processing algorithms within the EO/IR, RF, sonar, or acoustic domains, including techniques such as edge detection, segmentation, image restoration, adaptive processing, beamforming, angle estimation, synthetic aperture processing, waveform design, tracking, feature extraction, or classification and recognition
  • Proficiency using MATLAB and/or Python to analyze and evaluate data sets
  • Experience integrating hardware and software systems
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and other technical disciplines
What We Offer
  • Salary range: 86,800 USD – 165,200 USD
  • Relocation eligible
  • Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays
  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs, depending on the level of the position and whether the position is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement
  • Other benefits as per business unit and collective‑bargaining agreement
