Job summary

Helsing seeks a Lead Systems Engineer to own the systems engineering lifecycle for next-generation loitering munition systems for the U.S. Army. You will lead requirements, architecture, verification, and hardware-software integration, serving as technical authority and mentor for a systems engineering IPT.

You will shape the SEMP, drive SRR/PDR/CDR, manage risk with the Chief Engineer, and coordinate with government stakeholders to deliver mission-critical capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace, mechanical, electrical, computer science, or related discipline.
• 10+ years of systems engineering experience across the life cycle of complex defense, aerospace, or munition systems.
• Outstanding communication skills, including presenting artifacts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience developing subsystem and component requirements and interfaces, including mission systems.
• Experience with DoD weapon systems, requirements elicitation and management, integration and test activities.
• Experience on mature aircraft or munition development programs, including operational testing and airworthiness certification.
• Familiar with MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-882E, SAE ARP-4754A/ARP-4761, DO-178C, DO-254, MIL-STD-881.
• Experience with Cameo MagicDraw or similar SE software.
• U.S. citizen to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.
• Willing to travel to government test facilities and partner sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and management of system and subsystem requirements, translating U.S. military needs into detailed engineering specs.
• Own requirements traceability from Government Requirements Matrix through system verification and validation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop robust system architectures.
• Support path to certification by ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with government stakeholders, System Architects and internal teams to deliver mission-critical capabilities.
• Act as technical authority during design reviews and guide complex problem solving.
• Troubleshoot complex system integration and interface issues.
• Provide technical leadership throughout the full lifecycle as the program's trusted engineering authority.
• Shape customer needs into system requirements with multidisciplinary teams.
• Develop systems engineering artifacts and a single digital thread tracing all requirements.
• Communicate and manage program risk with the Chief Engineer and Program Management.
• Lead the SE IPT and own SRR, PDR, CDR and Progress/Readiness reviews.
• Ensure the system meets all technical, safety, reliability and maintainability requirements.
• Assess progress of development, test, production and sustainment; recommend changes as needed.
• Plan and guide verification and validation campaigns with Test and Evaluation teams.
