Job summary

GM Defense seeks a Lead System Engineer to act as a people leader and technical expert, defined by leading Systems Engineers in the definition and roll-down of system requirements while aligning interfaces and verification plans to ensure mission success.

You will drive cross-functional collaboration across mechanical, electrical, and controls domains, integrating inputs into a cohesive, requirements-driven solution with safety, performance, and manufacturability targets in mind.

Qualifications

• Lead System Engineer role requiring leadership of Systems Engineers, defining and rolling down system requirements and ensuring verification plans across subsystems.
• Ability to translate customer objectives into executable system requirements and availability targets.
• Experience with DFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and verification/validation collaboration across disciplines.
• Apply AI-enabled tools to improve requirements quality, speed, and traceability while building team capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Systems Engineers in development, decomposition, and roll-down of system requirements across the product
• Ensure subsystem requirements, interfaces, and verification plans align to mission and program objectives
• Drive system-level integration across engineering disciplines to deliver a cohesive product definition
• Lead cross-functional collaboration to ensure requirements support safety, performance, cost, timing, manufacturability, and validation objectives
• Oversee interface definition, requirements traceability, and verification planning across systems and subsystems
• Create System DFMEA and address failure modes through the design process
• Participate in Fault Tree Analysis and support risk mitigation
• Collaborate on the V&V plan across mechanical, electrical, and controls domains
• Lead integration and issue resolution through the full development cycle
• Work with subsystem teams to optimize system design and performance
• Set availability targets, allocate them to subsystems, and define mitigation plans
• Stay abreast of new technology and methods to predict and improve availability
• Apply AI tools to improve quality, speed, and traceability of requirements
• Ensure the team receives AI training and adopts AI tools effectively
• Identify risks early and lead cross-system issue resolution
• Support scalable system architecture and requirements framework
