Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to collaborate with our Design team on unmanned systems for defense and commercial applications. You will work across development stages, integrating controls, requirements, and architecture to drive simulation models.

The role emphasizes requirements traceability, instrumented flight test vectors, and model development, with strong Matlab and C/C++ skills essential for success in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• 8–12 years of experience in a systems engineering role (Aerospace systems preferred)
• Managed requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycle
• Provided weekly status of system development progress with requirements burn down
• Allocated requirements to subsystem and engineering coordination
• Evaluated system performance thresholds and provided direction
• Developed instrumented flight test vectors and data acquisition
• Provided input for model development and simulation analysis
• Strong Matlab skills and proficient with office software and productivity tools
• Familiarity with electronics and systems related to image collection and analysis
• Developed systems test plans, procedures, and reports and reviewed specifications
• Wrote Systems Safety protocols and ensured personnel safety during field testing

Responsibilities

• Manage requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycle
• Provide weekly status of system development progress with requirements burn down
• Allocate requirements to subsystem and engineering coordination
• Evaluate system performance thresholds and provide direction
• Work with Senior Staff Engineers in developing instrumented flight test vectors and data acquisition
• Provide input for model development and simulation analysis
• Review and interpret customer specifications effectively
• Identify and resolve system design weaknesses to influence future product architectures
• Tackle complex issues requiring evaluation of data and intangible factors
• Select methods and criteria for obtaining results and coordinate activities of other personnel
• Other duties as assigned
