Job summary

General Motors seeks a staff systems engineer to lead the AV team in architecting and integrating sensor suites across autonomy programs. You will drive system-level trade studies, define sensor specs, and work with AI/ML, simulation, data collection, platform software, and vehicle integration teams to solve complex challenges with data-driven solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• 10+ years of sensor-related experience and leadership in cross-functional initiatives.
• Experience with multi-modality sensing systems (camera/radar/lidar) and system integration.
• Depth in signal processing, link analysis, or ML across a sensing modality.
• Understand self-driving sensor needs and product mapping.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and align teams with data-driven decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication; proficiency in analysis tooling.
• Proficiency in Matlab, Python or similar for data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead system level trade studies for multi-modality sensor designs with performance modeling.
• Develop detailed sensor performance specifications grounded in sensor physics.
• Assess performance against product needs, quantify risk, and drive improvements.
• Collaborate with simulation, vehicle integration, perception, localization, and validation teams.
• Document technical decisions, trade-offs, and deliverables.
