Job summary

World Wide Technology seeks a Systems Engineer to lead deployment, integration and sustainment of DoD cyber defense platforms. You will design robust infrastructure, bridge bare-metal hardware, OS, virtualization, and container platforms, and ensure multi-tenant resilience.

You will implement automation with Python/Bash, harden Linux per STIGs, and integrate telemetry pipelines using Elastic Stack while coordinating with SOC and engineers on mission-critical systems.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, CS, CE, Cybersecurity, IT.
• 4+ years in DoD or federal mission environments.
• Experience configuring enterprise server hardware and network gear.
• Proficiency in Linux and STIG-based hardening.
• Docker and virtualization with VMware ESXi or KVM.
• Automation scripting in Python and Bash.
• Experience with Elastic Stack and telemetry pipelines.
• DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification.

Responsibilities

What will you be doing?

World Wide Technology (WWT) is seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the technical deployment, integration, performance optimization, and lifecycle sustainment of enterprise cybersecurity platforms within secure Department of Defense (DoD) environments. In this position, you will act as a pivotal systems integrator bridging bare-metal hardware, operating systems, virtualization layers, container platforms, network forensics, and high-throughput data telemetry pipelines.

You will design and administer robust, resilient operating platforms, maintain high availability across distributed clusters, implement infrastructure automation, and ensure seamless system interoperability between advanced cyber defense tools and multi-tenant mission architectures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Platform Infrastructure & Systems Deployment: Architect, configure, rack/stack, install, and sustain bare-metal compute servers, storage arrays, and enterprise networking hardware supporting mission-critical cyber defense infrastructure.
• Containerization & Virtualization Orchestration: Deploy, configure, scale, and maintain containerized workloads (Docker) and virtual machines (VMware ESXi, KVM, and cloud environments), ensuring multi-tenant resource isolation, resilience, and automated recovery.
• Linux Administration & Hardening: Administer and troubleshoot enterprise Linux operating systems across diverse distributions (e.g., Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu). Implement rigorous system hardening in strict accordance with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
• Automation & Scripting: Develop, test, and maintain robust Python and Bash automation scripts to orchestrate system configurations, streamline health diagnostics, automate platform patching, and execute repetitive operational workflows.
• Network Forensics & Sensor Infrastructure: Integrate, configure, tune, and sustain network traffic capture and packet inspection engines (such as Zeek, Suricata, and network taps/aggregators) across high-throughput mission network segments.
• Data Pipelines & Telemetry Management: Support large-scale telemetry ingestion, index management, and cluster health for data search platforms such as the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), ensuring uninterrupted data flow from distributed endpoints and network sensors.
• Cloud & API Systems Integration: Manage system-level API integrations across secure cloud components and third-party cyber tooling; build connectors and data routing scripts to ensure reliable telemetry delivery to analytic engines.
• Performance Monitoring & Capacity Planning: Continuously monitor platform resource utilization, memory/CPU bottlenecks, I/O performance, and network throughput; formulate proactive capacity scaling recommendations.
• Cross-Functional Systems Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cyber defense operators, SOC analysts, and engineering teams to translate threat detection workflows and ATT&CK-aligned requirements into high-performing, resilient platform specifications.
• Technical Documentation & Accreditation: Author and update comprehensive systems architecture blueprints, standard operating procedures (SOPs), data-flow diagrams, and technical artifacts required for DoD Authority to Operate (ATO) packages and lifecycle sustainment.

Required Qualifications

• Security Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility required.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related engineering field.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of hands‑on experience in systems engineering, platform infrastructure operations, or enterprise systems administration supporting Department of Defense (DoD), intelligence, or federal mission environments.
• Infrastructure & Hardware Engineering: Proven experience configuring, cabling, deploying, and maintaining enterprise server hardware, storage devices, and networking equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, and VLAN configurations).
• Operating Systems: Demonstrated proficiency in administering, configuring, and troubleshooting enterprise Linux distributions (RHEL, Rocky, CentOS, Ubuntu).
• Virtualization & Containers: Demonstrated hands‑on experience deploying, managing, and maintaining containerized environments (Docker) and hypervisor platforms (VMware ESXi, KVM, or cloud equivalents).
• Automation & Scripting: Practical ability to write and maintain automation scripts using Python and shell/Bash to interface with REST APIs and manage infrastructure tasks.
• Data & Log Aggregation Platforms: Experience supporting large-scale log aggregation, distributed search clusters, or enterprise telemetry tools (e.g., Elastic Stack [ELK], MDE, Trellix, Tanium).
• Compliance Certification: Active DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CySA+, CCNA Security, or equivalent).

Preferred Experience

• Sensor & Network Tooling: Direct hands‑on experience maintaining network traffic inspection tools (Zeek, Suricata) and telemetry collection pipelines.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform) within secure, air‑gapped, or disconnected environments.
• Security Frameworks & STIGs: Experience implementing DISA STIGs, SCAP compliance scans, and supporting Risk Management Framework (RMF) accreditation lifecycles.
• Detection & Threat Intelligence Alignment: Familiarity with threat intelligence models, attack correlation concepts, and the MITRE ATT&CK framework as applied to platform data ingestion.

Preferred locations:

Certain states and localities require employers to post a reasonable estimate of salary range. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $125000.00 to $160,000.00 annually. Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in the base pay.
