RTX is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our El Segundo, CA team. The role focuses on designing, developing, integrating, and testing RF sensor and radar algorithms for national defense programs, with on-site responsibilities at the El Segundo site.

You will work with systems, software, and hardware engineers, advancing real-time software, modeling and simulation, and data analysis while supporting flight test activities. Travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 5 years of systems engineering experience in radar/EO/IR algorithm design, signal processing, modeling, and simulation.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C/C++ and related programming languages.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and validate RF/EO/IR algorithms for radar and data fusion.
  • Model sensor phenomenology for RF sensors and related domains.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on real-time software, modeling, and testing.
  • Develop automated analysis tools for large RF sensor data and tracker measurements.

Airborne RF Sensor department is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and testing of work products within the Advanced Technologies Business Unit. This role will support a variety of programs that are defining, creating, and fielding the next-generation RF technologies and capabilities that are needed by our national defense force to meet and surpass the threats of today and beyond. This position is an onsite role in El Segundo, CA.

What You Will Do:
  • Design, implement, and validate algorithms for RF digital signal processing, data fusion, target tracking, and/or automated resource management, using both simulated and real-time demonstration data
  • Model and simulate sensor phenomenology, both for RF sensors (e.g. radar, Air-to-Air capabilities, Air-to-Ground capabilities, Electronic Support Measures) and sensors outside the RF spectrum (e.g., EO/IR)
  • Collaborate in a cross-functional team of systems, software, and hardware engineers in efforts including development and/or integration of real-time software, modeling and simulation, field demonstration, processing real-world data, trade studies in system and algorithm design, and requirements allocation and verification
  • Develop and extend automated analysis tools for reducing large data sets and producing analysis outputs, e.g., RF sensor I/Q data, sensor measurement data, tracker measurement data
  • Interface with technical and program team leads on a regular basis in a fast-paced environment
  • Lead small work efforts and communicate progress to the lead systems engineer and chief engineer. Maintain communication program stakeholders.
  • Travel up to 10%.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM degree, and 5 years of relevant systems engineering experience involving radar algorithm development and/or EO/IR algorithm design, signal processing, analysis, modeling, and simulation.
  • MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or related programming languages
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Active (or active within past 24 months) DoD Top Secret Clearance, with prior DoD investigation within the last 5 years
  • Troubleshoot electronic and/or system-level issues, signal processing, control theory, statistics, information theory, and detection methods, Imaging/pattern recognition, Data filtering (Kalman, batch, optimal estimation) Requirements development, software/hardware integration, data analysis
  • Resource Management Burst ranging, Air-to-Air, Air-to-Ground, Ground Clutter modeling and mitigation, Adaptive filtering, Space Time adaptive filtering (STAP), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), Kalman filtering, and multi hypothesis tracking
  • Contribute to the design and advancement of RADAR and EO/IR sensor systems
  • Apply modern development frameworks and best practices (Agile, DevSecOps)
  • Develop analysis and real-time software in both Linux/Unix and Windows environments
  • Support flight test and flight data evaluations
  • Convey technical concepts through briefings and presentations Experience with developing, implementing, integrating, and validating SW and/or system architectures, concepts, and constructs
  • Engage with Test Management, IPT leaders, hardware and software development engineers, specialty engineers, program managers, and customers
  • Guide and coach junior to mid‑level systems engineers
  • Ability to balance short term and long‑range program goals

The salary range for this role is 95,500 USD - 181,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
