Senior Systems Design Engineer - Join the Audi F1 Project

Welcome to the Audi F1 Project. Audi will compete in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship starting in 2026. The team has three locations: Audi's Motorsport Competence Center in Neuburg (Germany), the Sauber Group's Formula 1 factory in Hinwil (Switzerland), and the Sauber Motorsport Technical Center in the UK, which will be operational this year. Our Power Unit is developed in Neuburg, while Hinwil focuses on chassis development and race operations. We seek candidates with the mindset of an athlete—those who are resilient, determined, and committed to overcoming limits—to bring Vorsprung durch Technik to Formula 1. This position is based at Sauber in Hinwil, Switzerland.

Experienced mechanical and hydraulic Senior Systems Design Engineers to join our Systems Group.

Location

Sauber in Hinwil, Switzerland.

Your mission

• Design and develop mechanical and hydraulic systems and components for the racecar and related R&D activities.
• Work on systems related to Power Unit integration, steering, braking, fuel, and cooling layouts.
• Plan and oversee testing of system concepts on test rigs and racecars.
• Create detailed CAD models and technical drawings (experience with CATIA v6 / 3DExperience preferred) and maintain technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with suppliers and technical teams to ensure efficient and reliable system designs.
• Optimize systems for performance and reliability using simulation tools; analyze data to enhance performance.
• Contribute to continuous improvement through mentoring and providing technical guidance to team members.

Your profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• At least 8 years of experience in mechanical/hydraulics system design within F1 or high-level motorsports.
• Knowledge of FIA regulations and homologation for system components.
• Experience with system simulation and programming tools such as FEA, Matlab/Simulink, Amesim, Python.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills; experience mentoring others.
• Ability to work under pressure with a high sense of responsibility.
• Proficiency in English; German skills are advantageous.
