Talascend is currently seeking aSenior Fuel Handling System Design Engineer for a long-term contract career opportunity, 100% remote.

OVERVIEW:

The Senior Fuel Handling System Design Engineer will focus on designing mechanical fuel handling and process systems for equipment operating within a reactor vessel. The role involves collaboration with engineers across systems, contributing to advanced nuclear reactor projects as part of a high-performing team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design nuclear in-vessel fuel handling systems from requirements to final design.
• Manage Systems, Structures, and Component (SSC) requirements, ensuring traceability and configuration control.
• Apply appropriate design codes (e.g., ASME, ANS, ASTM) to plant system designs.
• Allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process systems.
• Create and manage system design drawings, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Oversee supplier projects, ensuring timely data and deliverables through technical reviews.
• Develop and review technical documents, such as System Design Descriptions and Interface Control Documents.
• Support design reviews as system designs are refined.

REQUIREMENTS:

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent STEM discipline (M.S. or Doctorate preferred).
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in designing complex mechanical systems.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Preferred experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling, or high-performance systems.
• Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section III or VIII codes is desired.
• Knowledge of quality standards (e.g., ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001) is a plus.
