Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation seeks a Systems Director to lead system engineering and integration for ESS space segment. You will own the architecture, requirements baseline, and integration strategy for a constellation serving national security space needs.

You will manage a skilled team of engineers, coordinate across government and contractors, and drive gates like PDR/CDR while maintaining technical excellence and clear risk management. This is an on-site role with some telework flexibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline
• 12+ years of relevant systems engineering experience on complex space systems, including at least 5 years leading technical teams
• Real expertise across the core SE disciplines: requirements management, functional analysis, architecture development, and verification planning
• Experience leading integration on large-scale, multi-contractor space programs and the scars to show for it
• Working command of DoD and USSF acquisition frameworks, including the DoDI 5000 series
• Familiarity with systems engineering standards and MBSE tools/methods
• Solid understanding of end-to-end space system architectures: space, ground, user terminals
• Judgment to prioritize ruthlessly and drive enterprise mission success
• Ability to operate strategically and tactically with measurable team goals
• Comfort leading from the front and adapting to priorities and demanding customers
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and ability to brief/assessments
• Some travel is required
• Current Top Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship to obtain security clearance

Responsibilities

• Owning the architecture across ESS space segment, ground and user terminals
• Directing end-to-end requirements management and traceability
• Owning the technical baseline and configuration control
• Driving ICDs to completion and ensuring robust interfaces
• Leading integration planning across contractors and agencies
• Improving SE processes and verification planning
• Leading system-level risk management and reporting to leadership
• Building and mentoring a high-performing SE team
