Job summary

The MITRE Corporation in Chantilly, VA, is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to support national security missions. You will define, design, and integrate complex systems, applying MBSE and traditional systems engineering across the lifecycle, from concept to deployment.

You will lead architecture activities, translate sponsor needs into actionable requirements and roadmaps, and guide acquisition planning.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience.
• Experience applying systems engineering practices to complex technical, operational, or mission-focused systems.
• Experience with MBSE and traditional systems engineering approaches, including requirements analysis, functional decomposition, interface control, trade studies, risk analysis, technical reviews, and engineering decision support.
• Ability to develop or review architecture products, requirements specifications, trade studies, technical plans, acquisition artifacts, and engineering recommendations
• Experience leading technical tasks, facilitating stakeholder workshops, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams, or advising senior technical and program leadership

Responsibilities

• Define, design, architect, integrate, and transition complex mission systems using TSE and MBSE.
• Translate sponsor needs into architectures, requirements, and roadmaps.
• Lead architecture activities and run stakeholder engagements.
• Develop and refine operational and functional system architectures, interfaces, data flows, and dependencies.
• Guide acquisition planning, SOWs, and engineering documentation.
• Mentor junior staff and support intelligence community.
