Job summary

Queue is seeking a Staff/Principal Systems Engineer to lead architecture, safety, and regulatory direction for a fully autonomous pharmaceutical dispensing system. You will be the second systems engineering leader, shaping processes, standards, and decisions with authority over margins, safety, and quality.

You will mentor engineers, drive cross-functional integration across hardware, software, autonomy, and pharmacy teams, and influence product strategy as Queue scales from pilots to nationwide

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years of engineering leadership on safety-critical products.
• Experience shipping safety-critical systems with real-world impact.
• Deep expertise in system safety and hazard analyses.
• Ability to define and defend safety cases with external stakeholders.
• Strong system architecture, requirements, and interface design.
• Fluency across hardware, software, and operations with cross-disciplinary scope.
• Ability to influence across teams without formal authority.
• First-principles, data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

• Define SE processes, standards, tooling, and review practices across the company.
• Own architectural decisions end to end, with authority to set direction and safety margins.
• Act as technical integrator across hardware, software, autonomy, operations, and pharmacy teams.
• Mentor engineers and grow systems thinking throughout the organization.
• Influence roadmap and product strategy alongside executive leadership.
• Define and own the system safety strategy for autonomous dispensing, including hazard analyses.
• Apply SOTIF methods to identify and reduce risk from performance limitations.
• Lead hazard analyses (STPA, FMEA, FTA) spanning perception, dispensing verification, software, and human interaction.
• Establish safety metrics and residual-risk arguments; build supporting evidence.
• Own regulatory strategy for autonomous dispensing across state Boards of Pharmacy and federal authorities.
