Job summary

The City of Renton seeks a Senior Systems Analyst to serve as the technical lead for the City’s Enterprise Business applications. Technologies include ERP, permitting software, document management systems, and related platforms.

This role requires strong hands-on skills in SQL Server, T-SQL, PowerShell, Windows Server, SSRS, integrations, automation, ETL, data warehouse support, and enterprise application administration. It also includes project leadership and cloud migration support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Systems or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in web server administration, data base, scripting programming, SQL, systems design, implementation or administration.
  • Or minimum of 9 years of relevant education and experience.
  • Two years project management experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Successful passing of a required background check and national fingerprint‑based records check.
  • Successful passing of a required driving record check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and maintenance to Enterprise Business applications as directed or escalated.
  • Maintain, administer, and service Enterprise Business applications and related software and integrations.
  • Plan, implement, and upgrade technologies through all phases of the software life cycle.
  • Perform database administration; monitor and maintain database performance; manage backup plans and security.
  • Act as project manager on multiple concurrent technical projects and coordinate cross‑functional teams.
  • Coordinate, develop, and maintain project charters, plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Develop databases and provide training and documentation.
  • Support diverse Business applications with varying complexity and frameworks.
  • Analyze, design, code, test, deploy, train end users, and troubleshoot custom applications and integrations.
  • Partner with vendors and IT staff to design complex architectures including network, servers, interfaces, databases, integrations and security.

Effective September 1, 2026 the salary range will be $121,620 - $148,044.

The City of Renton is looking for an experienced Senior Systems Analyst to serve as the technical lead for the City’s Enterprise Business applications. Technologies in this environment include ERP, permitting software, document management systems and similar. This position is responsible for application architecture, administration, integrations, upgrades, vendor management, database support, and delivery of technology projects.

This role requires strong hands‑on skills and experience with SQL Server, T‑SQL, PowerShell, Windows Server, SSRS, integrations, automation, ETL, data warehouse support, and enterprise application administration.

The right candidate will be a practical, hands‑on Microsoft‑platform problem solver who can build solutions, troubleshoot across system layers, and support future cloud migration efforts.

The role partners closely with Business Systems Analysts to analyze requirements, implement solutions, and drive business process improvements while ensuring system reliability, security, and performance.

Essential Duties
  • As subject matter expert, provide technical support and maintenance to systems as directed or escalated from other IT teams.
  • Maintain, administer and service Enterprise Business applications and related software and integrations including troubleshooting, migrating, scheduling, testing and patching, configuring, monitoring, training, updating and upgrading on servers and client computers.
  • Plan, implement and upgrade technologies through all phases of the software life cycle including analyzing, architecting, designing, testing, installing, configuring, training end users, creating documentation, outlining future growth plan and auditing results.
  • Perform database administration; install, configure and update database systems; monitor and maintain database system performance; manage backup plans and systems security.
  • Act as project manager on multiple concurrent technical projects; manage teams across functional, departmental and organizational boundaries.
  • Coordinate, develop and maintain project charters, plans, schedules, budgets and deliverables; monitor and control project scope, schedule, costs and quality.
  • Develop databases by analyzing, designing, coding/developing, building and deploying; create documentation and perform necessary training.
  • Support diverse Business applications with varying degrees of complexity and an advanced knowledge of their frameworks.
  • Analyze, design, code, test, deploy, provide training, create documentation and troubleshoot issues with custom software applications and integration systems.
  • Partner with vendors and other IT staff to design and implement complex architectures that include network, servers, interfaces, databases, integrations and security.
  • Gather functional and business requirements and specifications; translate requirements and specifications to author Request for Proposals; evaluate and select vendors.
  • Mentor and guide team members in analytical and project management techniques, business domains and processes, and technology languages and systems.
  • Write and maintain technical system documentation and clear user materials.
  • Manage the process of purchasing technology and coordinate contract negotiations.
  • Design, author and maintain custom reports using various report writing tools and techniques.
  • Regularly review prioritize and implement system changes requests to improve customer’s efficiency and accommodate business process changes.
  • Create content and conduct training classes and presentations throughout the organization on various applications and processes.
  • Manage SSL certificates to ensure security and process continuity.
  • Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.
  • Foster a culture of equity and inclusion by recognizing the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals.
  • Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
  • Participate in and help provide cross‑training in processes as directed by management to ensure a well‑rounded team for coverage purposes.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be assigned to support City priorities during emergencies.
Education, Experience, And License Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Systems or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in web server administration, data base, scripting programming, SQL, systems design, implementation or administration.
  • Or minimum of 9 years of relevant education and experience.
  • Two years project management experience.

Telework Program

Recruitment Process

The screening process will include a review of minimum qualifications and applicants selected for an interview will be invited via email to self‑schedule a time through the Government Jobs account. This position requires driving and is also subject to a driving record check from the WA State Dept of Licensing (or other state equivalent). Financial Representation and Benefits
Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance
  • Employees are offered a choice of medical/vision coverage through either Kaiser Permanente or the City’s self‑insured plan. Preferred Provider Option is available through the self‑insured plan.   • The dental insurance plan covers services such as regular checkups, x-rays, fillings and crowns. Orthodontia coverage is also provided.
Deferred Compensation Program
  • The City contributes 3% of the employee's base wage rate into a deferred compensation retirement plan.
  • Employees may also set aside a percentage of their earnings on a tax‑deferred basis.
Retirement Plan
  • Employees are enrolled in either the State of Washington Department of Retirement Systems Plan (PERS) or the Public Safety Employees' Retirement System (PSERS).
  • The following position is required to be enrolled in PSERS*: Probation Officer.
VEBA
  • If an employee was in PERS prior to 2006, the employee had the choice to remain in the PERS plan.
  • Both the employee and employer contribute to the plan.

The City contributes 1% of base pay into individual employee VEBA accounts, which can be used to pay out of pocket medical expenses.

Life Insurance
  • A group term life insurance policy is provided to each employee at a value equivalent to the annual salary, up to $50,000.
  • Each eligible dependent is also provided with a $1,000 policy. There is no cost to the employee.
  • Optional supplemental insurance is available for employees and their dependents at group rates.
Long Term Disability Protection
  • Many employees are provided with a long term disability policy up to the equivalent of 60% of their salary.
Flexible Benefits
  • The City offers employees the opportunity to open two separate tax‑free accounts through salary reduction. One account is to pay for expenses not covered by health insurance and the other account is for child care costs.
Vacation
  • Employees accrue vacation beginning with the first day of employment as follows: 12 days per year (0‑5 years); 18 days per year (6‑10 years); 21 days per year (11‑15 years); 24 days per year (16‑20 years); and 27 days per year (21+ years).
  • Employees may access their vacation immediately.
Sick Leave
  • Upon employment, the employee receives a sick leave bank of 24 hours, with an additional 24 hours awarded after three months.
  • Thereafter, sick leave accrues at the rate of four hours each pay period.
Employee Assistance Program
  • A confidential counseling assessment and referral service is available without cost to employees and family members for help with personal, family or job‑related problems.
Paydays
  • The City of Renton pays employees on the tenth and the twenty‑fifth of each month (24 pay periods each year).
Holidays
  • The City recognizes eleven holidays and offers two "personal" holidays each calendar year for most employees, unless otherwise specified in a labor contract.
Hours of Work
  • Flexible work schedules are available in many departments.
Transportation
  • Unlimited free rides on various bus systems as well as various carpool and rideshare options are available for City employees.
