Placements24 is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator for a fully remote role with core operational ties to Upington, Northern Cape, South Africa. You will manage and optimize cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or GCP, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.

You will script with Bash, PowerShell or Python, work with Linux and Windows Server, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes). Collaboration with distributed IT teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years as a Systems Administrator with cloud focus.
• Hands-on with at least one major cloud platform (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Scripting in Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
• Strong Linux and Windows Server knowledge.
• Experience with virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V).
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs.
• Familiarity with containers (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios/Zabbix/Prometheus).
• Strong remote communication and self-management.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience (5+ years) as a Systems Administrator, with a significant portion focused on cloud environments.
• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
• Strong understanding of operating systems (Linux and Windows Server).
• Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V).
• Knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs).
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills for a remote role.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
