Job summary

Supernal, LLC in Irvine, CA seeks a Lead Engineer, System Safety to own safety engineering across the aircraft lifecycle, directing strategy, governance, and safety execution across engineering domains.

You will apply SAE ARP4754A/ARP4761 and PL.2510, liaise with certification authorities, and lead analyses (FHA, PSSA, SSA, PRA, ZSA) while mentoring safety engineers and coordinating cross-functional teams to reduce risk and ensure certification readiness. This role is on-site five days a week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of aerospace safety engineering leadership at the aircraft or system level.
• Proven ability to plan and deliver multiple safety analyses to aggressive schedules.
• Experience with functional safety analyses (AFHAs, PASAs, PRAs, ZSAs, ASA).
• Experience with OEM aircraft development programs focusing on safety and reliability from design to industrialization.
• Experience with Flight Controls and electric propulsion (preferred).
• Familiarity with RTCA DO-178B/C and RTCA DO-254 (preferred).
• Excellent understanding of FAA/EASA certification processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the System Safety function for assigned aircraft programs across the lifecycle.
• Serve as technical authority for system safety, providing direction and risk disposition recommendations.
• Lead planning, coordination, and execution of system safety activities across disciplines and partners.
• Represent safety in executive reviews and communicate program safety status and risks.
• Influence decisions by balancing safety, certification, performance, cost, and schedule.
