Job summary

TSR Consulting is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for a Remote role. The candidate will lead Linux system administration, automation, configuration management with Ansible, and reliability across production environments. Responsibilities include incident triage, monitoring, patching, and 24/7 on-call support.

Strong scripting, Linux internals, and experience with cloud platforms are required. Preferred background includes OpenShift, KVM, VMware, and ELK stack, plus Terraform or HashiCorp

• Own monitoring and alerting for production systems and services.

• Contribute to architectural design, performance analysis, and capacity planning.
• Build tools to improve reliability, observability, and operational efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across Linux subsystems and services.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Linux systems administration, automation, configuration management, and containerized platforms and a proven ability to ensure uptime, performance, capacity, and reliability across production environments.

Responsibilities:

• Manage ticket and alert triage to maintain service health.
• Own monitoring and alerting for production systems and services.
• Implement and maintain configuration management with Ansible.
• Perform system maintenance, patching, migrations, and upgrades.
• Develop automation and scripts using Python and Bash.
• Contribute to architectural design, performance analysis, and capacity planning.
• Build tools to improve reliability, observability, and operational efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across Linux subsystems and services.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• BA/BS in Computer Science or related field desired, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of UNIX/Linux administration, including Debian and Red Hat.
• Proficient in Python or Bash scripting for automation.
• Significant experience with Ansible-based configuration management.
• Deep knowledge of Linux internals and subsystem troubleshooting.
• Experience selecting server hardware platforms based on application requirements.
• Familiarity with virtualization and hypervisors: OpenShift KubeVirt, KVM, Nutanix, VMware.
• Monitoring and metrics: Prometheus, Grafana, SysStat.
• Adept at triaging incomplete tickets and requesting needed details from requestors.
• Change management and version control: Git, Bitbucket.
• Strong documentation and technical writing skills.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline development.
• Directory and auth services: LDAP and Kerberos administration.
• Centralized logging with Elasticsearch/ELK.
• DNS zone file management and administration experience.
• Storage architectures: SAN, NAS, Ceph, and ZFS.
• HashiCorp tools: Consul, Nomad, Vault.
• Familiarity with AWS and GCP.
